Guard and Percussion Stuffed Animals

I went to my local ‘Dollar Store’ and purchased a bunch of plush animals.  To make a flag for the ‘guard’ ones I took a drinking straw and covered it with either gold or silver tape (cut lengthwise to conserve tape).  I then made the flag by finishing 3 sides of a 4″ x 6″ piece of fabric.  The unfinished side was wrapped and glued around the straw.  The straw was then glued to the ‘hand’ of the animal.  I further accessorized the animal with bows and ribbon for a more finished product.

To make the drums for the percussion animals I cut a 3″ section of a paper towel roll.  I used white cotton to cover the open ends.  Next, I took black felt and wrapped the outside of the drum and glued it in place.  I used gold cording to mimic the finishing touches on the drum.  To finalize the animal, I cut the tips off of match sticks and glued the sticks to the animals paws for drumsticks.

I made the bass drum bear for my boyfriend, and he absolutely loved it! However, I made a hat that matched the band uniforms at our school, which was a great finishing touch.
