Change is in the Air! Oct. 2008 Letter from the Editor

| October 3, 2008 | 0 Comments

As I look out my office window, the trees are still green and my flowers are still in bloom.  But the chill in the autumn air reminds me we will soon be blessed by the beautiful orange, red and gold of fall (and that my students will soon be blessed by more comfortable weather for our long-sleeve, high-necked, velvet tunics!).

Autumn brings the concept of change front and center.  And I am so excited to share with you all the changes underway at Color Guard Educators.com!

A TOTAL FACELIFT!

The first thing you may have noticed if you’ve visited the site recently is a total facelift!  Gone are the dark green and tan shades, which have graced the site for the past year and half.  In their place is a much more bright and modern looking layout of which I hope you will all enjoy!

We’ve added a “Featured Articles” photo slider to bring attention to particularly timely articles including several new articles this month!  Check out: “A Reader’s Review: The McCormick’s Designer’s Color Kit” by Rose Molinary, “Embracing the Air Blade” by Jennifer Dupree Cortez, and an insightful interview of Mario Ramirez , the director of the Diamante Winter Guard from Southern California, contributed by Chris Casteel.

EDITORIAL ADVISORY BOARD

Perhaps I’m most excited about the wonderful coaches and adjudicators I’ve gotten to know who share my passion for the mission of CGE.  Through contributing articles and providing updates and advice about what is happening in their part of the color guard world, they have become a wonderful asset to the site.  Please take time to visit our “About” page to see our newly formed and still growing volunteer advisory board .  The current advisors have already contributed a great deal to the site over the past 2 months and I look forward to all they have to offer our community.

MORE FOR OUR READERS!

We’re planning to try out a few fun features on the site and hope that our readers will visit and contribute to them.  My own children are now in preschool leaving me a bit more time to keep up with more regular updates (I hope!).

  • Poll of the Month!  Visit the home page. Place your vote and see what other educators are saying as well!
  • Question of the Week!  The more instructors participating in the forum , the better this resource will be for providing ideas and insight for new instructors.
  • News Updates!  The green box on the main page will feature all recent updates to the news section .  If your guard or circuit has something to share with the world, let us know and maybe we’ll post it here!  Check out WGASC’s new Instructor Certification Program !
  • Calendar!  Know of an educational event, clinic, championships competition, webinar or scholarship deadline in your area?  Please let us know and we’ll share it on our Calendar page (under “Resources”) to keep instructors informed about all of the additional training offered by circuits and independent units throughout the world.

NEW ARTICLES!

Finally, the October updates are posted.  Other new articles you won’t want to miss include:

Some featured articles from our archives include:

This hobby for me is truly a passion and I’m so pleased to have the opportunity through CGE.com to meet other educators, share our experiences and learn together.  Thank you to everyone who visits, contributes to the discussion on the forum page and works hard every day to provide positive experiences for young performers!

Happy Spinning!
